Energy market fees and charges

AEMO is a not-for-profit organisation, operating on a cost-recovery basis.

At AEMO, we prioritise strong financial and program governance to ensure financial stability, stakeholder trust and a maintain a strong licence to operate. Our annual budget and fees consultation is one of the ways we provide transparency over our costs.

AEMO’s annual budget reflects our committed program to deliver on our core functions and responsibilities and our strategic priorities, outlined in the Strategic Corporate Plan. It is comprised of distinct financial segments, which are aligned with our sources of funding. The majority of AEMO’s financial segments are funded by fees paid by registered market participants, however, a growing portion of AEMO’s activities are directly funded by state and federal governments and via fee-for-service arrangements.

National Transmission Planner charges, Transmission Use of Services charges (Victoria only) are published earlier, in line with rules requirements.

Draft FY27 Budget and Fees consultation now open

Our Draft FY27 Budget and Fees sets out how AEMO proposes to fund delivery for the next financial year, with prudency and within a robust governance framework. Together with the Strategic Corporate Plan, it guides how we deliver on the expectations, responsibilities and priorities established by Energy Ministers in AEMO’s Statement of Role.

Consultation on the Draft FY27 Strategic Corporate Plan and Draft FY27 Budget and Fees is a critical part of this process, helping to inform priorities, sequencing and delivery in a way that balances affordability, resilience and longterm value.
