Matters under consultation

Medium term Projected Assessment of System Adequacy (MT PASA) assesses power system security and reliability under a minimum of 10% Probability of Exceedance (POE) and 50% POE demand conditions based on production unit availabilities submitted by market participants, with due consideration to planned transmission and relevant distribution outages and limits.

The MT PASA process description fulfils AEMO’s obligation under clause 3.7.2(h) of the Rules to document the procedure used in administering the MT PASA.

AEMO is proposing minor amendments to the process description, including updates to be consistent with the Reliability Standard Implementation Guidelines, including specifying PASA availability definition relates to a 72-hour recall period, reference temperatures for regional 10% POE demand periods, and commissioning unit MT PASA submission requirements. The updates also specify that Voluntarily Scheduled Resources are not required to submit MT PASA bids.

Consultation submissions on the MT PASA process description consultation paper are due in PDF format to [email protected] by 5:00 pm (Melbourne time) 25 May 2026. Please note that submissions will be published, other than confidential material, as per AEMO’s Consultation submission guidelines.
