Powerlink has published a Project Specification Consultation Report (PSCR) to maintain reliability of supply and address condition risks at Ashgrove West Substation.

Ashgrove West Substation was established in 1979 to provide an injection point into the Energex distribution network to supply power to the Brisbane area. Planning studies confirm there is an enduring need for Ashgrove West Substation to maintain the supply of electricity to the Brisbane area and meet legislative requirements.

The secondary systems and some capacitive voltage transformers at Ashgrove West Substation have been identified as being in poor condition or at the end of their technical service lives with identified obsolescence issues and condition risks which may experience premature failures.

Powerlink must therefore take action to avoid the increasing likelihood of loss of power arising from failure of the aging secondary systems equipment and those capacitive voltage transformers prone to early failure at the substation.

The PSCR outlines Powerlink’s proposal to address the risks at Ashgrove West Substation by replacing all secondary systems, certain capacitive voltage transformers, and metering by 2029. The indicative capital cost of the RIT-T project for the preferred option is $18.92 million in 2025 prices.

In accordance with the requirements of the NER, a summary of the PSCR is made available on the AEMO website. A copy of the PSCR can be obtained from the Powerlink website on the RIT-T Consultations page or by emailing [email protected].

Submissions on the PSCR are required by the closing date of Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
