Unscheduled price responsive resources monitoring and reporting

In a broad sense, the NEM’s market participants and its users of electricity are either active or passive. In the past, the market generators were active and end-users were passive, but with the emergence of consumer energy resources (CER) and other distributed energy resources (DER), the rollout of smart meters, and the introduction of tariff offerings that incentivise (or disincentivise) generation or consumption at particular times, end-users are increasingly becoming active.

In accordance with NER 3.10C.2(e)-(g), AEMO has developed this monitoring and reporting portal to evaluate the effect of active unscheduled price responsive resources on the accuracy of AEMO’s short-term demand forecasts.

The reporting is governed by the AEMO Price Responsive Reporting Guidelines, which AEMO last consulted on in December 2025. The reporting is made up of quarterly reporting supplemented by an annual reporting requirement.

  • The quarterly reporting will cover two separate areas:
    • Forecast accuracy trends
    • Uptake trends for CER technologies
  • The annual reporting will provide annual trends of the quarterly reporting plus:
    • Information about demand side participation (DSP)
    • Commentary on the annual trends in CER uptake, DSP and forecast accuracy

The dashboard linked below, together with AEMO’s DER Register and Demand Side Participation (DSP) information further below, provides a single source of information.

The quarterly reporting dashboard is organised into multiple pages. Use the tabs at the bottom of the report to navigate between them.

Quarterly Reporting Dashboard

From time to time, due to backfilling missing or bad quality Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) data, revisions of settlement data, or other adjustments made to AEMO’s data, the calculated accuracy metrics may change from what has been reported in a quarterly report. Unless the change is substantial, this will be reflected in the next quarterly report upload. Only significant changes may lead to a republishing of data within a particular quarter.

The DER Register data may also change from what has been previously reported due to ongoing quality assurance improvements of the register.

Quarterly data will be updated at the end of each quarter, once full quarter data is available.
