Transition planning

AEMO’s transition planning activities focus on continual enhancement of operational readiness to prepare for upcoming transition points. These are events and milestones that require material changes in the operational approach to maintaining security as the National Electricity Market (NEM) transitions towards lower emissions.

The Transition Plan for System Security provides a structured approach for the energy sector to navigate key upcoming Transition Points. It also outlines the work underway to define capabilities and progress understanding of achieving system security in a low-emissions power system.

To assist in maintaining power system security in the transition to a low-emissions power system, the AEMC’s Improving security frameworks rule change provided AEMO with two new “Transitional Services” powers.
